The International Wheat Congress in Perth in September 2024 was a fantastic opportunity to deliver AEGIC’s insights and expertise to 900 wheat experts from across the globe. The prestigious biennial event brings together the global wheat community to discuss cutting-edge advancements in wheat breeding, genetics, and agronomy. AEGIC Executive General Manager Courtney Draper, together with Grains Australia CEO Richard Simonaitis, presented the Australian perspective on wheat production, trade, market insights and market education as part of a panel session featuring global leaders.

AEGIC wheat specialist Dr Larisa Cato presented at a well-attended workshop on grain quality, processing and nutrition, and presented AEGIC’s insights to the international Wheat Initiative Group Meeting. Wheat Initiative Group members visited the Sustainable Innovative Food Technology (SIFT) facility, where AEGIC’s Asian product labs are currently based. About 220 delegates took the opportunity to visit udon noodle wheat variety trial sites as part of a field trip organised by Australian breeding companies LongReach and Australian Grain Technologies (AGT). AEGIC’s Dr Larisa Cato gave delegates a history lesson on this unique Western Australian industry, including the importance of sensory evaluation of udon noodles.
