Barley quality market intelligence: Central and Latin America

During market visits to Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Brazil in 2023, AEGIC identified an opportunity to better understand customer malting barley quality preferences and further stimulate demand for Australian malting barley.

In response, with investment from Grains Australia, AEGIC will work with customers in these markets to collate objective intelligence on the quality and functionality attributes that customers require from Australian malting barley. These insights will help inform Australian industry decision-making on opportunities in these markets.

Complete (March 2025)

• We identified key representatives from the malting and brewing industries of Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Chile and travelled to these countries in October and November 2024 to engage with them, and seek participation.
• In March 2025, we travelled to Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile, as well as Ecuador, meeting with key representatives from the barley, malting, brewing industries once again to commence the customer survey participation.

Scheduled (June 2025)

• Analyse and review the data collected from the March 2025 trip and plan for the next trip in August–September 2025.
• We will continue to develop a network of Central and Latin America barley industry representatives.
• Depending on positive market dynamics, we will host an Australian barley seminar in-market this September 2025 (to be confirmed).
