Projects
Australian wheat exports often experience intense competition from Black Sea and Argentinian wheat based on price, as well as North American wheat based on functional baking performance. Benchmarking the Australian wheat used in SEA against competitor samples highlights the quality improvements required to enhance Australia’s competitive position.
AEGIC continues to develop novel oat-based food concepts to capture increased food-grade opportunities for oats. Engagement with customers in key Asian markets on the benefits, functionality, and versatility of Australian oats aims to increase the demand for oats and oat products in these markets.
Between 2015–2019, with investment from GRDC, AEGIC developed and delivered a landmark intelligence package detailing South East Asian wheat quality preferences. With investment from Grains Australia, AEGIC is expanding, reviewing and verifying this intelligence to ensure the Australian industry has access to the latest insights.
During market visits to Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Brazil in 2023, AEGIC identified an opportunity to better understand customer malting barley quality preferences and further stimulate demand for Australian malting barley. In response, with investment from Grains Australia, AEGIC will work with customers in these markets to collate objective intelligence on the quality and functionality attributes that customers require from Australian malting barley. These insights will help inform Australian industry decision-making on opportunities in these markets.
Education and resources
We provide technical information, in-market support and education to international customers to help them understand and optimise the value of Australian grain. This makes it more likely that they will continue to use Australian grain. We also offer industry-leading training to the Australian grains industry to help companies ensure the highest level of quality for customers.
